How to Use the Social Security Calculator

1. Enter your gross monthly salary

Enter the salary before income tax and employee social security deductions. The calculator uses this figure as an estimate of monthly gross employment income.

2. Enter your monthly working hours

The standard full-time reference is 173 hours per month. The dependency-insurance allowance can be prorated in certain cases where an employee works fewer hours. The calculator provides an estimate rather than a full payroll determination.

3. Select a calculation period

Choose monthly to view an estimated contribution for one month, or annual to see a simple 12-month estimate. The annual option does not model every possible change in salary or contribution ceiling during the year.

4. Review the breakdown

The result separates the principal employee contributions into pension insurance, healthcare, cash benefits and dependency insurance. Income tax is not included.

2026 employee rates

Pension: 8.5%. Healthcare: 2.8%. Cash benefits: 0.25%. Dependency insurance: 1.4%. These are the principal employee rates; contribution bases and conditions differ by scheme.

Understanding Luxembourg Social Security

What is healthcare insurance?

Healthcare insurance helps finance eligible healthcare costs. For employees, the standard healthcare contribution share is 2.8% in 2026.

What are cash benefits?

Cash-benefit contributions support eligible cash benefits under the sickness insurance system. The employee rate is 0.25% for insured employees entitled to the relevant benefit.

What is dependency insurance?

Dependency insurance helps fund support for people who need assistance with daily activities. Its employee contribution is 1.4%, calculated on a different base from some other contributions. A qualifying allowance is applied to that base.

Is there a maximum contribution ceiling?

For several social security branches, the monthly contribution base has a ceiling. The ceiling was €13,518.68 from January 2026 and became €13,856.63 from June 2026. Dependency insurance does not use the same maximum ceiling.
